Ashland Inc. operates as a specialty chemicals company worldwide. The Ashland Water Technologies segment supplies specialty chemicals to the pulp, paper, mining, food and beverage, power generation, refining, chemical processing, general manufacturing, and municipal markets. The Ashland Performance Materials offers composite resins, water-based and energy-curable coatings, pressure-sensitive adhesives, and elastomers that are used in the construction, transportation, infrastructure, boatbuilding, and packaging and converting markets. This segment also provides metal casting consumables and design services for foundry management; and styrene butadiene rubber primarily to the tire market. The Ashland Consumer Markets segment delivers automotive, commercial, and industrial lubricants; automotive chemicals; and car-care products. Highlights
The presenter is long shares of chemical maker Ashland (ASH) and believes the set up is favorable as a number of potential catalysts could play out over the back half of 2014. The stock presently has very little in the way of long-only sponsorship, and if the company can beat this quarter “the bear case on specialty ingredients would be essentially nullified,” in his opinion.
